Day 46

August 15, 2023

Today's the day! Our last day on the road, and it couldn't come soon enough. We're all exhausted, and any semblance of good behavior or patience is long gone. Everyone was acting up today, and we were honestly all just in survival mode.

Just shy of 400 miles to go today, so we hit the road as soon as we could manage. It's the LAST TIME I have to load the bag onto the roof of the van (at least, until the next time). We loaded it up, piled in, and hit the road heading northwest through Baker City. We stopped at a rest area just outside of Deadman Pass in Oregon and we all got a sense of déjà vu - it turns out, it's one of the rest areas we stopped in last summer when we took our trip down to San Diego.

Our only stop today was at Country Mercantile in Pasco. They have delicious salsa, and I love stopping there any time I'm in the area. We also grabbed a few chocolates and some fresh cherries and were back on the road in about 10 minutes. No rest for the wicked!

We were all so motivated to make it home (and try to put some distance between us and the bad attitudes) that we made it home far sooner than we thought we would - we made it home by about 3:30! Time to unload, unpack, and put our washing machine through its paces. While we were gone, we got some new neighbors we still need to meet, and we've gotta have a showdown with our post office over some pretty intense mishandling of our mail. I'll try to get one final update posted in the next few days. Stay tuned!
