Day 37

August 06, 2023

Today, we left our Presidential Suite (presumably Bill Clinton, since it's Arkansas) anddid a little car touring of the city of Little Rock. The highlight was the North Central High School, the first school to be de-segregated following the Brown v. Board of Education decision. The school was huge! We also saw statues dedicated to the Little Rock 9 and the Arkansas capitol building.

Next, we drove out a little bit to North Little Rock and visited Old Mill, a reconstruction of an 1800s mill. Apparently it was used in Gone With The Wind. The scene was beautiful, and my pictures don't do it justice. It sits over a lake and there were ducks and swans swimming under the bridge we walked over and there was a waterfall that fed into the water wheel of the mill.

After the mill, we had about a 3 hour drive to Nixa, Missouri. My grandma lives there, and "A" is the only one who's ever met her, so I'm glad we could make it in to see her, and my uncle (who I haven't seen in almost 25 years) and his wife (who I've never met) drove about an hour to meet us as well. We had a great visit, and the younger kids got into ALL of her stuff. "T" had a blast messing around with the wheelchair in her room. She lost consciousness earlier this year and fell, breaking her neck. She's out of a brace and mobile, although she uses a walker to get around. She's made a pretty incredible recovery! Unfortunately, we could only stay about an hour because we still had about 3 more hours to go to get to our next hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We took several pictures, waved our goodbyes, and drove off into the sunset.
