Day 17

July 17, 2023

We left our Airbnb and drove to downtown Toronto. Our main stop for today was the Hockey Hall of Fame. We've been a hockey family pretty much since "K" and I started dating a billion years ago, so it was pretty exciting that we were able to take the whole crew here. This was definitely an expensive stop, but at least we have the exchange rate on our side? The Hockey Hall of Fame

They had a bunch of incredible bits of memorabilia. They had old jerseys, old sweaters (which were the precursors to jerseys), ice skates and sticks from the 1920s, and more. They had samples of original seating from the Original Six stadiums on display, and of course an entire section dedicated to Wayne "The Great One" Gretzky. There weer interactive exhibits for the kids to practice shooting or being a goalie which were a hit, and of course the crown jewel: the one and only Stanley Cup. Jerseys

After we'd had our fill of hockey, we had a quick lunch and set out on foot towards the CN Tower. The CN Tower is a massive tower in downtown Toronto. It held the title of tallest building in the world until 2007. It is currently the 10th largest building in the world, but still the tallest in the western hemisphere. We posed for a couple quick pictures, grabbed a Beavertail (which is kinda like an elephant ear), and checked out a small, free, open-air train museum right outside the tower before hiking back to the parking garage and started making our way through VERY slowly moving traffic east to Ottawa. One of the chains we had been seeing ever since we entered Ontario was Kelsey's Original Roadhouse. We decided we needed to make it to one for dinner because, well, obviously. It was definitely more expensive than we were used to, but "A" and I split the nachos as a way to keep costs down. They were $25cad (and it said they serve 6 people but that was definitely not true) but way more economical than a $19cad cheeseburger for each of us. Obligatory nachos picture below: Nachos

One thing that I don't think I've talked about enough is the sheer exhaustion with a trip like this. We are all BEAT, and tension has been running higher than we'd like. We've had so many long, hot days, late nights, and early mornings. Tonight was another one of those late nights, thanks to our stop at the Roadhouse - we made it up to our hotel room at 10:37pm. We did our best to rush everyone into bed, but it was still close to 11:30 before people were asleep. And we get to start the whole routine over again tomorrow at 7am!
